Spring has sprung in Pueblo, Colorado and the days are getting longer. I know this for a fact because each week I must back up my walk time by 30 minutes to accommodate my weekly training goal. I am training for a 3-day event in August 2001, where I'll walk from Ft. Collins to Boulder with my mom & 2000 other women. You may have heard of it. The Avon Brest Cancer 3-Day.
The way it works is this:
The registered walkers each raise $3,800 to fund Breast Cancer research and Avon organizes the teams of volunteers to coach us, truck our belongings each day, set up first aid and so on. Avon does this to facilitate more money going toward providing medically underserved women with more direct access to breast cancer early detection and support services. The contributions also fund medical research to find the causes and (one day) a cure for breast cancer as well as research into other cancers specific to women. While researchers work to find a cure, early detection offers the best chance for successful treatment. Therefore, the moneys the sponsored walkers raise will "fund a comprehensive array of breast cancer programs and services that address the full spectrum of needs with regard to breast cancer."
I'm doing this because breast cancer statistics are worsening. Forget the "predisposition" for Breast Cancer, all women are at risk. According to the national Cancer Institute, a woman is diagnosed with breast cancer every 3 minutes, and every 14 minutes one dies. Furthermore, in the U.S., breast cancer is the leading cause of death for women between 40-55 and is the most common form of cancer in women today.
Your contribution TODAY, will help make a difference in a woman's life today and in the future. Please help fund the research and treatment methods so our mothers, daughters, nieces, sisters, wives, and granddaughters have a better chance at prevention, early detection and cure.
