2000-01 English Instructor, University of Idaho. Teaching college composition and rhetoric.

2000Teaching Assistant to Dr. Kerry Ellen McKeever for English 495, Literary Criticism. Spring semester.

1998Directed a publishing internship for 5 graduate and undergraduates at the University of Idaho, resulting in the publication of a creative writing textbook, Rebel Yell.

1997Graphic design software instructor at Computopia, San Francisco. Taught Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and Pagemaker.

1996 – Presentation Skills for Scientists at the Gladstone Institutes, San Francisco.

1975 – Present. Poetry, fiction, and essays published in over 100 magazines.

1984 – Look Ma, No Head! Poetry chapbook published by Impetus Press, Stow, Ohio.

1986 – Green Fuse. Poetry chapbook published by Mofo Press, San Diego, California.

1987 – Janus Is That God. Collaborative theatre project produced at UC San Diego.

1988 – Wilmington. Short film script; film produced and directed by Jay Greathouse.

1991 – Sex & Politics. Poetry chapbook published by Solstice Press, San Francisco.

1992 – Extreme Cases. One-act play produced by O’Garvey & Greathouse at Humbolt State University as their MFA thesis project.

1999Splitting. Novel published by Wordcraft of Oregon.


1984 – 1997   As founder, editor, and publisher of Permeable Press I produced two full-length trade paperback books per year, as well as sixteen issues of a critically acclaimed literary magazine, Puck. Designed, produced, and print supervised all publications. Managed marketing, sales and distribution, author publicity and tours, and accounting. Permeable Press sold to Cambrian Publications in 1997.

Freelance editor for Mercury House (San Francisco). Content editor for Pharmako/Gnosis by Dale Pendell, a book about the use and history of pharmaceutical flora.


1990 – Present   Collage and silk-screen prints focused on text illumination. Collages published as illustrations in magazines. Exhibitions in collage and book-art gallery shows include: Good Vibrations (San Francisco, 1993), Printed Matter (New York, 1995), New York Public Library (1997, permanent book-art collection).

1990 – 1999   Founding partner of the San Francisco design firm Putnam Clark Design Group. Clients included Wells Fargo Bank, Stanford University, Williams-Sonoma, Bancroft-Whitney Law Publishers.

Scientific illustrator for the Gladstone Institutes, a molecular biology research institute.

Publications designer for the University of Idaho.

Manager of a quick-print shop in San Francisco’s busy Castro District.
